A Dark Rainbow
After teaching the Bible lesson at a club in Johnson City, I decided to give an invitation where children could pray to receive Christ in their seats. Afterwards, I gave instruction for anyone who had believed in Jesus as their Savior to come and tell me about it in the back. Kevin came back to talk to me.
“Hi Kevin,” I said, “Did you pray to receive Jesus as your Savior today?” He nodded so I asked, “So what happened to the sin that was in your heart when you did that?”
Kevin seemed to search for the words to describe it, “It was like a dark rainbow and God just took it all away just because I believed in Jesus.”
Kevin and I discussed how Jesus had forgiven him of his sin and that now he was a part of God’s family. I explained that now he had the authority to talk to God because he had been adopted in God’s family by believing in Jesus. After explaining that he would be a part of God’s family forever and explaining other growth opportunities, we prayed to thank God for what he had done in Kevin’s life.
Kevin agreed that he would pray his own prayer first and then I would pray. Before Kevin began to pray, he amped himself up under his breath, saying something like, “You can do this, just have faith!” Then he began to pray, “Dear God, thank you for forgiving me. I hope I can be a part of your family. And even though I may sin, I know I have authority to be a part of your father’s family.”
You don’t always get to see the impact reaching children with the gospel makes, but Kevin was the exception! He seemed to truly understand that he had been forgiven!
