The Rule Song: Classroom Management
Published by admin on
The rule song is best used with younger children and is sung to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” but uses these words instead: “Rules are meant for having fun, so let’s be sure to follow each one. Hand up, look up, zip your lips, listen up, and upwards sit. Rules are meant for having fun, so let’s be sure to follow each one.” The rule song is sung at the beginning of club each day when you are reminding the children of the rules. It is best to use CEF’s “Ups” Rules: Sit up, Look up, Listen up, Zip up, and hand up to go along with the song. After that, a teacher or leader can choose to start singing the Rule Song when the children are getting unruly. This is meant to serve as a gentle reminder to follow the rules again. The Rule Song can also be used with incentive or partnered with Mr. Potato Head. If the Rule Song has to be sung, a piece gets taken off of Mr. Potato Head. You could also say that if the Rule Song has to be sung as a reminder more than once, the children don’t get candy or a prize at the end of the club. Click below to download the rule song visual.
